Quality of Life Williamsburg, the former Colonial capital of Virginia, inspires many retirees who choose to settle in an area with moderate climate, cultural amenities, stable economy, and a college town that offers adult classes on everything from history to Tai Chi. A new bicycle trail, the Capitol to Capitol Trail, has been funded and partially built, and will cover 60 miles from the old capitol (Williamsburg) to the current one (Richmond). Our winters are moderate, with most snow gone in a few days. Spring and Fall bring visitors to the colonial area where visitors are treated to costumed narrators who spin tales of the early colonies, including slavery. The main street in Colonial Williamsburg, Duke of Gloucester Street, is a former Indian trail and the water sheds for the James and York Rivers are on opposite sides of the street. Restaurants abound and various cuisines tantalize the taste buds. Championship golf courses dot the landscape with Kingsmill a perennial favorite for larger tournaments. Nothing beats Christmas in this city..from carolers to horse-drawn carriages in the colonial city and homes decorated for the festivities, it's a majical time for everyone. In the summer, Busch Gardens and Water Country are destinations for the young and young at heart. Come for a visit. Stay for a lifetime.
