mixed feelings
Let me start off with a positive tone. Marion is blessed by its surrounding small towns. if you like to just drive and the beautifully manicured farms of corn and soy, you will like it here. We often just drive 50+miles exploring the area and the view never fails us. its just wonderful to see old humble America in the perfect rows and farms here. Marion, in itself is a decent town. has ample shopping and commodities and most of the people you meet seem fair. the weather is not too bad for being north central Indiana.
now the not so nice. it seems to me after living here 10 months , buying a home and being in contact with numerous city and county officials that there is a significant lack of responsibility here. they have no problem taking your money but, good luck asking them to own up for the gross neglect and wreckless endangerment that is quite apparent. The home i bought was labeled unsafe and unsecure two months after i bought it, in the dead of winter, with no proof as of why and no permits on record ( a home this old and the previous ownes occupied less than 2 months prior before i bought it). Code and Health departments seems to let these dangerous properties hit the market intentionally hoping an unknowing sucker(unfortunatley i became one) dumps all thier money into it to clean it up, so they dont have to.so 10 months later still not living on my property and no chance of ever getting permits to make this home which is suddenly unsafe, habitable again. truth is the previous owners buried trash and hazmat on property and the County inspectors whom are forbidding me to do anything that will improve the situation knew all about it for years!.
Marion can be a great place to live, i just think a changing of the guard is desperately needed. God help ya if your not in thier "good ole boy" buddy system.
