This area undeservedly (?) gets a bad rap I purchased a home in Sylmar in 1981 and have lived here since. From the beginning, people have had negative things to say about this town. I can say that at least the area in which I live is safe, quiet, and peaceful. Property values have been slow to rise but are finally coming into par with other southern California values. I am in a horse property area and like it here very much.
