Won't stay hidden much longer... Hello, yep, there is a paper mill and a steel mill, and about 1 day a week (varies with weather/season) the sauerkraut smell blows towards town. I think of it as the smell of jobs as decent hardworking people make a living. Why would you live here then? Sure, the historic district is one of the most beautiful residential areas in the entire country with homes from the 1730's and live oaks shading the street year-round. Sure, there is a cute boardwalk on the bay with nice restaurants and bars that are chill and easily walkable. Yes, 4 rivers converge here to provide incredible fishing and boating options. It is wonderfully diverse too, (although the wealth difference still needs to be overcome...) And, some of the best beaches on the Atlantic are easily accessible 15 minutes away. Its also sunny most of the time and warm enough to be outside year round. But if you want all this, why not move to the amazing city of Charleston?? Because Charleston is a city. crowds. noise. traffic. Georgetown is a small town - you see the same people walking and biking past your house every day. And secondly... cost. you can buy a charming 1800's house in Georgetown for 150-350k. see what that gets you in historic Charleston....it is a very, very short list. Georgetown has made some "10 best" lists lately, so if you want to get in before the costs rise, better not dawdle. oh, how can I give 5 stars if it smells like kapusta once a week? Because, if it wasn't a real working town, all the old houses would be a million bucks just like Charleston and I couldn't afford to live there.
