20 years in this community If you enjoy Winter and cool Summers, you may enjoy living here. Snowfall usually begins in December and lasts until late April. The last few years Winter weather has started in October. My biggest weather complaint is the lack of sunshine. There are lots of heavy overcast days here. It is called "Lake Effect" and comes from being close to Lake Superior. The area has state forests that are great for hiking and camping Summers and snowmobiling in the Winter. There are groomed cross country ski trails in the area, and down hill skiing within a reasonable driving distance. There is year round fishing. Lake State University consistently has a great hockey team! There are ice skating rinks in the area and lessons for youngsters interested in playing hockey.
