Would not recommend moving here.... I was born and raised in Omaha. For anyone considering moving here from another city, I would not recommend it. My biggest issue with this area is that you are out in the middle of NOWHERE. There is absolutely NOTHING to do in this state (much less this city), and if you drive outside of Omaha in any direction, you end up in the middle of corn fields. There is no scenery here whatsoever. The city is expanding rapidly, so any trees that provide the only sense of "scenery" are being chopped down for more shopping strip malls (which, ironically, often sit vacant for long periods of time). I will say one of the "pros" is, Omaha is a relatively safe city. Unless you move to North Omaha (where you can expect regular drive-by shootings and gang activities), Omaha is a pretty safe place to live. The unemployment is rated as low, but the wages here are also very low. There are good-paying R.N. jobs open (due to the NE Medical Center), but aside from that, most job openings are for telemarketing, retail and fast food. Many people have to work 2 jobs just to make ends meet here. The city continues to invent new taxes (and raising the ones that already exist), so in the near future, Omaha will be unaffordable. People will be paying a high cost of living - for what? To live in a city where one of the biggest attractions is the world's largest ball of stamps? (It's true - not joking). If you are moving here for friends or family, that is one thing. But if you have no ties to the area, I don't know why anyone would want to live here.
