Safe! (notes on house pets)
Having spent 25 years in Erie, PA, I feel Evergreen is a very safe and friendly place. You feel that you can go anywhere at anytime and you are ok, and should anything happen, your neighbors will help you.
Only real safety issue is wildlife - as some mt lions have been known to kill people's (large!)dogs - but almost exclusively only at night. Coyotes will snap up your cats too. I live in an area where eagles and hawks eye my cats even during the day, so cats are now exclusively indoors. Depends where you are in the mts. I lived one town over where my cats were safe outdoors (they all lived) for 4 years, although they always came before dark.
