University - with a community wrapped around it Buies Creek is an unincorporated, one stoplight town (literally) with two championship golf courses and a university. Campbell University has graduate schools in education, pharmacy, business, and law and is a liberal arts school. The community has very little commercial base with only a couple of restaurants (fast food) and no bars. Found about halfway between Raleigh and Fayetteville, it lies on the banks of the Cape Fear River in the upper coastal plain of North Carolina. Interstate highways (I-95 and I-40) are within a 15-minute drive, and there is an airport with a 5000+ foot runway within a mile of the community. The nearest hospital (small) is 10 miles away, but major medical centers at Duke and UNC as well as Raleigh are within an hour's drive. The Atlantic Ocean is less than a two-hour drive, and the mountains of western NC are about 4 hours. The university offers limited cultural opportunities, but Raleigh, about 30 minutes north, offers many more, as do both Durham and Chapel Hill (an hour's drive). A good community in which to retire.
