sales and property taxes going up We are approaching retirement age. As we review our current situation, we find that we are going to have to sell our home and relocate - because we cannot afford the property taxes (which increase every year) on a fixed retirement income. Taxes continue to increase based upon the growth of new homes, driving up the assessed value of older homes. Last year the town board asked for home rule promising to keep taxes low..... first thing they did ws to increase sales taxes by 1%.
