Best weather, clean area
Long Beach tends to have a bad rep., for good reasons. The City has cleaned up its act over the past 10 years, especially downtown. The streets and sidewalks are kept clean and the City actively enforces Code violations. I originally stayed here because the weather is so much cooler in summer than inland. We also have a lot going on here besides just great restaurants and shopping. I live in the Arts District where there are many small galleries and activities. We also have races of all types - running, biking, boats, and the Grand Prix. It is a big city area so crowding and parking can be problems. I advise you find a place with high owner-occupancy if possible because people tend to be quieter, more respectful of the property, and less likely to cram whole families in small apartments.
