Located in the northern region of Alaska, Bettles is a small city situated in an isolated area of the state. The city has a population of only 2 people, and a population density of 4.61 people per square mile, which is significantly lower than the US Population Density of 93.29 people per square mile. This low population makes Bettles one of the smallest cities in Alaska. Despite its remote location, Bettles provides many activities for its residents to enjoy year-round. One popular local business is Mabel Jeffreys Trading Post, which offers both convenience store items as well as outdoor supplies for fishing and camping trips. For outdoor recreational activities, visitors can explore the nearby Chena Hot Springs or take part in winter sports like snowmobiling or ice fishing on Lake Minchumina. Other demographic organizations include schools such as Margaret Murie Elementary School and churches that serve the community's spiritual needs. Lastly, the annual King Salmon Classic Fishing Derby serves as a major sporting event in Bettles each summer.
