Playas, NM is a small town with a population of 46 people. It is located in the southwest corner of New Mexico and has a population density of 18 people per square mile. Despite its small size, Playas boasts a variety of attractions for residents to enjoy year round. Outdoor activities include camping, fishing, hiking and horseback riding. The local businesses consist of various small restaurants, stores and boutiques as well as the Playas Lake State Park which offers plenty of activities such as boating, kayaking, birdwatching and picnicking. In addition, the community also hosts festivals to celebrate their culture such as the annual Tamale Festival held every summer. Other organizations include the United States Border Patrol checkpoint along New Mexico Highway 9 which ensures safety for residents and visitors alike. Locals also enjoy participating in sporting events such as softball tournaments or golf tournaments organized by the local clubs or groups in town.
