Dutchess County has many local businesses and organizations that support the community such as Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie Galleria, Marist College, IBM Research Center and Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park. Year-round outdoor activities are available including walking or biking along the Dutchess Rail Trail which runs through Poughkeepsie; trails for experienced hikers up to Overlook Mountain in Woodstock; fishing and kayaking on the Hudson River; swimming at one of the many beaches; boating on Lake Minnewaska in Gardiner. There are also lots of sporting events to attend throughout the year: The American Basketball League (ANBL) team, Dutchess Warriors play at McCann Arena every June; minor league baseball team, The Hudson Valley Renegades play at Dutchess Stadium every March–September; ice hockey games for the Mid-Hudson Misfits take place at Murray's Ice Den every November–March. The area also hosts many special events such as Poughkeepsie’s Annual SummerFest and Tour de Poughkeepsie cycling race.
