Meriden, Connecticut is a small city located in New Haven County. Meriden was first settled in 1660 and has since grown to be home to around 60,000 residents. It is the second largest center of population in the county and is considered a central hub for businesses, services, and culture. Politics in Meriden are governed by a mayor-council system which consists of a seven-member City Council elected every two years. The current mayor of Meriden is Kevin Scarpati, who was elected in 2019. In addition to the Mayor's office, there are also seven Deputy Mayors who oversee various city departments such as public works, parks and recreation, public safety, education, human services, finance & accounting and economic development. Each Deputy Mayor serves under the direction of the mayor and helps to ensure that all the departments within Meriden provide their citizens with necessary services.
