Du Quoin, Illinois is the county seat of Perry County and is a small town with a population of approximately 6,400. The town has been governed by a Mayor-Council form of government since its inception in 1855. The mayor is elected every four years and the city council consists of eight members elected for two-year terms. Current mayor Joe Stahr has served six terms since 1987.
