Whitehall, Michigan is a small city located in Muskegon County. It has a population of about 3,500 people and is governed by a Mayor-council form of government. The current mayor of Whitehall is James White, who was elected in 2017 and serves for four years. The City Council consists of seven members elected at-large to serve a two-year term. The primary duties of the mayor and the council are to serve the needs of the citizens by making sure that taxes are used responsibly and efficiently to provide necessary services such as police protection, street maintenance, water supply safety, and other city-related services. The mayor also acts as an advocate for Whitehall residents, attending meetings with state and federal agencies on their behalf.
