Tecolote, New Mexico is a small community tucked away in the high desert of northern New Mexico. While the town may not be as large as some of its neighboring cities, it has an active political climate due to its proximity to larger metropolitan areas. The town's government consists of a Mayor and a five-member City Council who are elected during local elections to serve four year terms. The governing body provides local services such as public safety, road maintenance, and sewage treatment. Beyond that, Tecolote is represented by state and federal officials such as Congressmen and Senators in order to address larger issues concerning the state and nation. In addition, citizens of Tecolote have the right to vote for presidential candidates during national elections. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won.
