Fair, SD is a small city with a population of approximately 4,000 people. As such, it is primarily governed by the local town council and mayor, who are elected to oversee the day-to-day issues of the city. The town council consists of seven elected members who hold two-year terms and serve on committees such as public works, finance, and public safety. The current mayor of Fair is Thomas Smith who was elected in 2019 and serves as a spokesperson for the city.
