Perquimans County, North Carolina is a small rural county in northeastern North Carolina. It is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners who are elected by the citizens of Perquimans County. The board members serve four year terms and make decisions on all local government matters such as law enforcement, education, health care, public safety and environmental protection. The county operates under a council-manager form of government where the board hires a county manager to oversee day-to-day operations of the county. The board also holds regular public meetings to allow citizens to voice their opinions and concerns about local issues. Each election cycle, the citizens have an opportunity to choose new representatives to serve their interests in local politics.
