City of Colleges - 1/15/2010

We have 3 colleges/universities in town; University of Central Arkansas, Hendrix College and Central Baptist College. Great small town atmosphere just 30 min from Little Rock. Centrally located with easy access to all parts of the states![read more...]

Conway is the Best - 1/15/2008

I have live in quite a few places--California, Boise, Idaho, Honolulu, Minnesota, and presently Madison, Wisconsin. By far, I believe that Conway was the best place I ever lived. My experience in the city was nothing short of excellent. As a Californian, and African-American professional, I heard a lot of negative things from my parents who grew up in Arkansas. However, when attended Univ of Central Arkansas in 2001,I found the community to be extremely friendly from people at school, shopkeepers, my neighbors in my apartment complex, etc. The west end of Conway, where I lived, has beautiful and modern brick homes. People are more clean cut in Conway, versus the folks here in the midwest who have the nerve to joke about Arkansas. One thing I enjoyed about Conway was the low cost of living. As one poster mentioned, Conway Corporation is an excellent low cost city owned utilty provider. The biggest drawback of Conway was that jobs outside of the university, which is a major employer, are hard to come by in Conway. However, the city would be a great place to retire or own a small business.[read more...]

Conway Meets Retirement Expectations - 7/28/2007

My husband and I just moved to Conway in April 2007. We have been very impressed with Conway Corporation, the city-owned utility. They have provided excellent service and were very responsive when we had trouble with our Internet. An employee even dropped by at a later date to see that everything was working well. We also have had occasion to use the doctors here already and have found them to be well-trained and caring. We chose Conway as our retirement home, and it is living up to our expectations in every way.[read more...]

Conway, AR - 7/17/2007

Compare Conway to cities in the south from the 35k-80k population and it is hard to beat. It is a growing city with three colleges and all that they provide. It is quickly becoming a regional retail destination. The downtown looks light years better than it did 6 years ago. In the last 12 months the city has bought almost 100 acres of new park land. The city has also pledged to spend approximately $50 million on parks over the next 20 years. It does not have the cultural amenities or energy of a city of 250k-500k. You have to drive a whopping 25 minutes to get that.[read more...]

unfriendly, USA - 6/19/2007

this place is only interested in two things: 1) where you go to church and 2) how much money you have. the people here are greedy, unfriendly, and selfish. There are also many rednecks in addition to the self-righteous religious people. the preachers damned the owners of the few restaurants you can get a glass of wine, yet they weigh 400 pounds. nothing but hypocrites here. stay away. Little Rock is much better.[read more...]

Awful city. - 9/15/2006

Conway, Arkasnas is the 8th ring of hell. Conway is a cultureless, dead city. There are no jobs or any activities here. All we have is about 20 fast food restaurants and two movie theaters. THATS IT. Don't make the mistake of moving to this city.[read more...]

Here in Conway - 9/13/2006

Conway has 3 colleges and lone of them will have the right atmosphere for you. Central Baptist-very conservative, Hendrix-private college, pricey, high standards, artsey/intellectual, and the University of Central Arkansas-a growing public university contantly increasing its standards with a proactive president. You can only purchase liquor in restaurants with a membership but not long ago you could not purchase it at all. For culture look to the university and Reynolds Center, Snow Fine Arts, Baum Gallery. Restaurants here include Outback, Mike's (yummy), Cracker Barrel, Chili's. There is a new shopping mall, but the movie theatres are really old and in disrepair. I have lived here for 9 years and I always look forward to the next place I get to move to. This location is no different and I am still looking for that great place I that I would love.[read more...]

Don't spend the night in Conway, AR - 3/21/2006

Don't spend the night in Conway. Their cops are corrupt. They pulled me over for a DWI because I dropped a soda in the car and swerved over the dotted line. It was 1 am on a weeknight and no-one but me was on the road. They arrested me for DWI-drugs becuase I had meds in my purse they said they couldn't identify. It was a sample of Seroquel...a type of antidepressant. They did a drug test, found the aforementioned medication (which was prescribed TO ME), and kept me in the drunk tank overnight. The tape of me was 40 minutes of me sitting in a chair. At court they brought in 5 officers who weren't present that night to testify against me. They also had on their docket over 40 others that had been "caught" not in that month but in that WEEK. Thats more than they average in the STATE in a week !!!![read more...]

Cold, greedy, heartless selfish people? - 3/4/2006

Is it just the people I have known all my life or is it the area? I was in this area of the country all my youth, and the people are true grit country types: suspicious of others--especially Yankees--because, after all, we are still fighting the Civil War down there; cold and heartless; greedy and grasping. The land is pretty and green, but the ambiance ain't there kids. I feel sorry for anyone raised there cause their view of humanity is surely twisted.[read more...]
