What BestPlaces Users Say about Oxnard

Oxnard, California is a coastal city located in Ventura County. It has a population of over 200,000 people and is known for its beautiful beaches, thriving agricultural industry, and diverse community. With a moderate climate and close proximity to major cities like Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, Oxnard attracts many residents and visitors alike. However, like any city, it has its fair share of pros and cons. Here are some user reviews from BestPlaces.net that offer insights into what it's like to live in Oxnard.

"Oxnard is a great place to live, especially if you love the beach and being outdoors," says Jane, a resident of Oxnard for 10 years. "The weather is perfect and there are plenty of things to do, from surfing to hiking. Plus, the people here are very friendly and welcoming."

On the other hand, Mark, who has lived in Oxnard for 5 years, has a different perspective. "I moved here from the East Coast and was not prepared for the high cost of living. The housing prices are outrageous and traffic can be a nightmare. It's also not as safe as I thought it would be, there are definitely some rough areas."

Another resident, Maria, has mixed feelings about Oxnard. "I've lived here my whole life and while I love the beach and the food, there's not much else to do. It's a pretty quiet and slow-paced city, which can be nice, but it can also get boring. Also, the job market is not the best, so many people commute to nearby cities for work."

In contrast, John, a recent transplant to Oxnard, has nothing but positive things to say. "I moved here for a job and I couldn't be happier. The cost of living is reasonable, the weather is unbeatable, and there are so many amazing restaurants and cultural events. I feel lucky to live in this hidden gem of a city."

Great Weather - 9/20/2008
I lived in Santa Barbara for 39 years and loved the weather...but I couldn't afford to buy a home there. We began looking in the Ventura/Oxnard area, and we landed in a new community in Oxnard called 'Riverpark'. The weather is identical to SB...average temp is 72 degrees. We're close to the ocean, so we get the benefit of the ocean breeze.

It's kind of boring looking at the weather.com page, as the temp varies about 5 degrees one way or another.

Nights are cool. Afternoons can be a little windy/breezy. Overall, we love Read More

Crime from my point of view - 4/21/2008
Oxnard is a nice place to live but just like any other it has it's problems. Crime in Oxnard is largely related to drugs and/or gangs. Certain neighborhoods run rampant with both and if you stay clear of those areas your experience in the city will be pleasurable. The local law enforcement agency in Oxnard is a smaller version of LAPD. They don't tolerate mcuh and they aggressively enforce the laws of the land. You can find the better areas near the coast. When visitng Oxnard relax and enjoy the mild Read More

High Price but You get what u pay for.... for the - 3/26/2008
Ive lived in ventura/oxnard for 7 years. compared to all the other oceanside cities in so. cal, this is the cheapest, which i think is suprising because its the best location, far enough away from los angeles but still managable to go their. great weather, youll never complain about that unless you lived here all youre life and ur so spoiled... anyway, oxnard is much better layed out compared to ventura, much more impressive new housing communities, it does have a much more hispanic population though. It ACTUAlly has less crime than ventura, but ventura has a priceless downtown main street, and a peir that is much more appealing along with their better beaches than oxnard. Ventura is pretty much fully developed but oxnard has room to grow and currently has a sub-city called riverpark underway, and so far im very impressed. ventura is considerablly less populated and its more a suburb type, oxnard is more a small mid-city with 2 skyscrapers, airport, navy port and did hold summer Read More

Climate - 11/3/2007
You pay fot the weather here. It's that simple. The weather is GREAT! Because it is so close to the beach, you get the cool ocean breeze, but it is still sunny and warm most days. The down side - quite a bit of fog some mornings, depending on where in Oxnard you live. Also, there are certain areas of the city that I would not live with my two-year-old daughter, no matter how nice the weather, because it just isn't very safe. There is a high crime rate in some areas of the city. Over all, though, the climate is quite a compelling reason to look to Oxnard, CA, to find the perfect place to Read More

suspicious - 9/10/2006
Good luck getting a job here if you do not speak Spanish. There is something very suspicious about very low-income families living in one of the highest housing-cost areas of Read More

Oxnar Area - 4/16/2006
Great area, everything is at your finger tips. I am currently renting because it is terribly expensive to buy here. I have owned 2 houses before comeing to California and I am constantly surprised how little you get for a half of a million dollars. I must be surrounded by Read More

Couldn't Ask For Better - 4/13/2006
Oxnard has a very mild climate without any major changes in weather. Winter is never freezing, summer is never too hot. It can get windy, but it never lasts for very Read More

Traffic; overcrowded schools - 9/22/2005
Too much road work at one time. One very main road that runs north/ south has had lane closures for over a year.

Overcrowded schools. Too many new neighborhoods, not enough schools.
