West Des Moines IA - 12/8/2009

I just moved here from out-of-state a few months ago and have been pleasantly surprised by the broad range of activities and amenities available in this medium sized IA city 10 minutes from downtown Des Moines. No matter your interests are, this city has everything. Brand new shopping mall, historict shopping district, stadium movie theatre, tons of restaurants, really nice comedy club, farmers markets, lots of festivals and activites for kids, parks, recreational lake, some of the best schools in the country - public and private, and it's one of the cleanest cities I've ever seen. I know it's Iowa but if you're thinking of moving here, don't rule it out until you actually visit.[read more...]

Plenty to do in Des Moines area - 1/18/2007

We just moved to West Des Moines and we love it here! We moved here three months ago and every weekend we have been able to do something different and fun. There is plenty to do in the Des Moines metro with the Wells Fargo Arena, Science Center, Iowa Events Center/Vets Auditorium. There are a number of museums. You can also visit the beautiful Iowa capital building as well as the Governer's Mansion. There are many beautiful parks here such as the Water Works Park, Raccoon River State Park, and Saylorville Lake. Some people complain there isn't much to do, but I guess anywhere you go, you have to actively look for things to do, and we've found plenty. I find there to be quite a bit of culture and diversity here as well. My husband and I both speak Spanish and English fluently. We here Spanish literally EVERYWHERE we go. We also know some Italian, Portuguese, French, and Turkish and we've heard all those languages spoken around West Des Moines. Literally every time we head to the Walmart in the Windsor Heights area, we hear Turkish, African Languages, Eastern European languages, Asian languages, and of course Spanish. We have seen Indians and Africans dressed in beautiful traditional clothing there as well. I am happy to see all this diversity as it adds flavor to life. I also find that people are quite friendly and polite here.[read more...]

We are located in Waukee School District but our address is West Des Moines. The school system is great and our neighborhood is quiet. I've been from Iowa all of my life and there isn't a better place to raise a family. There isn't a lot to do in the city of Des Moines so you do have a lot of quality time with those you love the most. What's wrong with a weekend get-away to Kansas City or Minneapolis? Both are only a short drive away! [read more...]
