Best place to live in Michigan! - 7/30/2008
Birmingham has all the benefits of a big city, with none of the negatives. It has that urban feel with a small town charm. We walk to restaurants, library, movie theaters, grocery store, doctor and dentist appointments. We even walk to city hall to vote and pay our taxes. There are lots of events going on, and always something to do. A family of five, we have lived with only one car for the past seven years. We are so lucky to live here - a GREAT place to raise a Read More

Great town - 7/26/2006
Very good school system which participates in the International School, rated the best high school in the country by Newsweek in 2005. Lots of trees and sidewalks. Nice downtown with two large movie theaters. Hockey rink, two golf courses are run by the city. It is like a small town but is surrounded by a big city. Everything to do- sports, opera, theater, symphony and the Detroit Institute of Arts. Outstanding medical care. Close to Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan. Real estate taxes are higher in Birmingham than anywhere else in the Detroit area- this to support the schools. In-state tuition to the U of Michigan and Michigan State are a plus. Friendly people. Lovely summers. Winters are not as cold as you would think due to lake effect. 5 hrs to Chicago and to Toronto in the other direction. Low crime. Kids can walk to school. Detroit Metropolitan airport is the gateway to the Orient since it is directly across the pole from Japan. Only downsides are the economy, which has Read More
