Review of Linco,

A review after 15 years of residency
Star Rating - 5/26/2016
I moved to Lincoln 15 years ago after having lived in several places throughout the country due to military service including Upstate NY, Asheville, NC, Orlando, FL, El Paso Texas, and St. Paul, MN. I must admit that Lincoln is a very "Odd" place. Filled with both good and bad like every place but if you have lived elsewhere it's kinda like crossing over into the twilight zone. The Good- The economy is quite strong. There is not much difficulty in finding employment in just about any professional or service field. Traffic isn't heavy just odd see below. Most places in town are accessible in 15 minutes. Th cost of living is quite affordable as well. Despite what you may think the weather is actually pretty moderate for the most part. Since 2001 the city has had maybe two real heavy snowstorms aside from that most snow accumulations are about an inch or so three or four times in the winter. The wind does get quite annoying at times but for the most part its really not bad most of the time. The winters can be cold but no worse than any other northern city and more mild than most. The bad - The people are fake, they wrap up up well in polite Midwestern Nebraska Nice if you will but don't be fooled. I have found the people to be the most racist, cold hearted back stabbers I have ever ran into in my life. I dont know how many times ibe had private conversations where the good folk will tel me how everything here runs on the good ol boy network. Many times the good ol folks have admitted that they dont really care for blacks and other minorities. Dont like people from either the east or west coast and certainly not anyone that may not think as they do. And this from a relatively liberal town. Civil liberties mean nothing often Judges will look at the "intent" of an officer rather than the actual law. The town is divided strictly by classes the south is richy, conservative and elitist. the north is more middle class. The lower class will always be that here and is highly looked down upon. Culture is limited to Nebraska football. A fan base exists which is extremely loyal but highly delusional living on the success of an overrated 1995-96 team that has done literally nothing since and is about as mediocre as say West Virgina = irrelevant. The traffic as noted above is light for the most part, the only traffic problems are caused by the sheer stupidity of the drivers. 3 or 4 people turning left a good ten seconds after a light has changed and then they flip you off or honk at you if you complain. The drivers have a difficult time understanding the concept of merging into traffic the assumption being that you should move over irregardless of who has the right of way. Most intersection have NO STOP signs.Yes this is true. A shocking surprise to people not from Lincoln. The right of way is typically determined by who drives through the fastest. Overall a pretty gloomy place unless of course you are comfortable with a Nazi type mentality. I guess that's the best way I can sum this place up. If you are a good ol boy who's connected and care nothing about anyone else this place is a great place to live. The people are very fake and Nazi like - good looking, nice to your face, will say anything you want to hear, but will without hesitation, or conscience have you arrested or slander you or fire you etc. And I say all this as a professional white conservative Republican male. Its really kind of sad.
