I've lived in Vancouver for the majority of my 59 years, and I think some of your comments deserve a response. So, in no particular order:
1. You have presented a VERY inaccurate view of the downtown area - especially the ghost town and tumbleweed comments, which are totally ridiculous. The area is actually quite developed and there are some very pleasant sections, Esther Short Park for starters.
2. White trash - I'm sorry to say that the trashy people to which you refer come in all colors. These people disgust me, too.
3. Bike lanes - That problem has improved. More bike lanes have gradually been added, and people are using them.
4. Yes, the city is spread out - I think this is preferable to the entire population being crammed into one area.
5. People being angry and closed-minded - You may be on to something there. I suspect that the anger has much to do with the gradual, but dramatic deterioration in the quality of life. This town isn't anything like it was when I was growing up, and many of the changes have made it a much less pleasant place to live than it used to be.
