Hi! I live in Lakeland, Florida. We are about half-way between Orlando and Tampa; I tend to go to Tampa more than Orlando, but Orlando is just a few minutes further for us. Our city is "close to everything, but away from it all." That is intended to mean that we are close to a lot of exciting activities, but our city is quiet and peaceful. We do have good medical: Lakeland Regional Medical Center a teaching hospital for USF-Tampa, Watson Clinic, and Clark & Daughtrey are all well-regarded. There is also a VA clinic if you are entitled to VA benefits. Our weather is pretty much the same as Orlando; two seasons, dry (November-April) and wet (May-October), approximately. Polk County is generally less busy and much less crowded than Orlando and Tampa, so I think that our quality of life is quite good. Major universities are nearby (Florida Polytechnic (new this year), UCF and its subordinate campuses, USF) and Polk State College continues to grow programs to meet local needs. Our primary education is just okay, you would do better in northern tier states, but our secondary programs are extensive with over 40 vocational paths as well as the usual general education opportunities. www.lakelandgov.net/library (City of Lakeland library where I work), www.polk-fl.net (Polk County Schools website), lrmc.com (Medical website).
