Great quality of life in an outstanding commuter location. Close to both Baltimore & Washington DC.

frederick is overcrowded, overpriced, and seems for lack of a better term a redneck attempt at a dc subburb. it doesnt really seem like a city allow so many think that it is. jobs are ok, but only if you commute to frederick as they dont pay enough to afford the housing. there is also no flow to how things are placed in frederick and its just like a massive cluster of old crusty town and new all thrown together and passed off as culture and smart growth. when is actuality it lacks anything to set it apart from any other town near dc. I would recommend hagerstown, md if you wanna live in Maryland. Its always has more a city feel and is experience rapid growth and has more shopping and dinning than frederick. and is more convienient to pa, nova and WV. plus hagerstown has a more impressive downtown that feels more like a city. and the housing in hagerstown costs about half of what frederick's is. And hagerstown is only 16 miles west of frederick on I-70 or rt. 40. there is a reason they call frederick, Fredneck

Frederick is gorgeous. It is a little overcrowded during rush hour, the streets get pretty bad, but growing the road infrastructure takes time. As far as jobs, a lot of people do commute, and this accounts for a large growth in size but there are still plenty of places to work - Ft. Detrick, Becthel (one of the largest privately owned businesses in the world, just to name a few. Fredeick's historic downtown has had a massive restoration project. It is absolutely stunning. Festivals and events constantly are thrown along Carol Creek, which flows through downtown. Frederick's downtown has been ranked very highly in Main Streets across America. Downtown is now filled with restaurants and bars and shopping. Now the entire reason I am writing this response is because of this persons reply on Hagerstown. Not sure if you have ever been there but it is a disgusting town. Hagerstown is poor white trash whith the most debilitated looking downtown I have ever seen. I am not sure if this person has really been to either place but I just can't believe that they would pick Hagerstown as a better place to live then Frederick. All in all- I have lived many places in my life and I have never been happier than when in Frederick.

I can't believe someone suggested moving to Hagerstown over Frederick after saying that Frederick has a redneck feel. LOL. Hagerstown is full of rednecks! It IS a redneck town. I live in Hagerstown and cannot wait to move! Recently, Hagerstown was voted as the town with the fattest and ugliest people in the nation. (I'm not kidding either.) I would add, the rudest people in America as well. I've lived in a lot of different cities and towns and there is no way that Hagerstown is a better place to live than Frederick. I have worked in Frederick for the last ten years and have spent a lot of time there. The people are friendly and there is more to do than in Hagerstown. The downtown area is adorable and it's location is great for taking advantage of the DC area. If your only requirement is cheaper housing, then sure, move to Hagerstown, but you're going to have a tough time finding a well paying job (which is why I commute to Frederick.) In the end, it's all relevant. Property may be cheaper but your salary is lower. Frederick also has outstanding schools that have produced high test scores and the national Teacher of the Year last year. By the way, Hagerstown's downtown area is practically a ghost town and there is no reason, other than the library or one or two restaurants, to visit there. Traffic in Hagerstown is also bad and the section of I-81 from Pa. to Hagerstown is clogged with truck traffic.
