A Great Place for Retirees
Star Rating - 10/23/2018
My husband and I moved here a year ago after having lived in South Florida for the better part of our lives. We are retired and love it up here. Property taxes and home insurance are very low compared to what we were paying in South Florida. We love the seasonal changes. Yes, it gets cold but not like up in the Northeast where most of my family lives. Real estate prices are excellent for resales. They are a little pricey for new construction. We upsized rather than downsized because prices were so good. People are friendly and everything we need is within 1.5 miles of our home. We are still discovering all that this city has to offer and have enjoyed farmer's markets and First Fridays. The city has many well-maintained parks, and we walk daily between two of them: Heritage and Etowah River Parks, which are both fully paved and are connected by a path going through a peaceful wooded area that leads to a pedestrian bridge over the Etowah River. We are still exploring what the city has to offer to seniors and believe that like other areas of the country, Canton is still figuring out how to deal with an aging population. However, the city and county do have senior centers and public transportation is available to those who can no longer drive.

I, too, spent a good many years in South Florida but once the kids were off on their own, my Mom and I decided to join forces and head north. Have been in the Triangle region of NC for the past 13 years but it's never felt like 'home'. Been considering a move to northern suburbs of Atlanta for no reason other than prices seem doable comparatively speaking. We know nothing of the area but an agent with whom I've communicated is steering us towards Canton/Woodstock areas. Are you finding these locations to be fairly well developed with plenty of amenities.....markets, Sprouts/Trader Joe's/Whole foods/Publix/Kroger/Costco etc in reasonable proximity? Does it feel for the most part to be 'civilized' as compared with provincial or rural? And healthcare? Have you experienced any of the local hospitals or medical offices? Are they in easy drive? Where in S. Florida were you living, btw? Any insights you might provide would be appreciated and am grateful in advance. Feel free to e-mail me if so desired.....nancyd438@hotmail.com. Thank you, Nancy
