Pre pandemic: 2/5
Everything is affordable but there’s a lot of dead shopping centers. Lots of trashy or broken areas. Absolutely nothing to do on Friday and Saturday night except eat at Logan’s or Applebee’s for the nth time.
Political: This place is great if you’re a republican/Trump supporter. If you’re a democratic you’ll be fine as long as you don’t speak much. And definitely don’t say a word if you’re more left.
For LGBT treatment: if you’re a lesbian or bisexual woman you’ll be fine. If you’re a gay or bi man, don’t move here. My boyfriend and I could barely show a shred of affection without someone saying the f-slur or making threats. We were even asked to stop holding hands at a restaurant. Straight people can dry hump in public but we can’t hold hands without violent threats.
USA USA ??
Also, not a safe place to be transgender. Unless you work at Starbucks, no one will hire you. Statesville doesn’t care how stealth you are, once your employer sees your birth info, bye.
After pandemic: 1/5
None of these sociopathic rednecks wear masks. It got to a point where I drive to Huntersville to go grocery shopping just because most of them wear masks. In statesville they will stare and maybe even call you a “sheeple” if you wear one. Not even grocery store and fast food employees wear them. They’ll put them on their chin. An absolute nightmare. And, of course, these fools truly believe the vaccine is going to “alter (their) DNA”, so they’re not even going to get it.
If you’re LGBT, believe in covid, or are just generally intelligent, you’ll stay the hell away from Statesville and the towns that surround it.
