Hi everyone. I see this thread is a couple of years old, but I'm hoping for some insight. I currently live in the lower Hudson Valley of NY. I love that I have access to nicely groomed, wooded running/walking trails right in my backyard, along with views of the Hudson. This area has the best of both worlds as you can head north and easily access the mountains or hop the train to the city. But, it comes with a cost! I am a teacher and currently exploring VT/ME. Portland seems like a vibrant, beautiful coastal city--- however, I am a devout runner and really like to be close to a substantial trail system. I know Portland has a lot of paved paths, but are there any wooded/dirt trails? I saw there are some parks about 30 min. away, but what about the city? I'd consider living outside of Portland, but I'm used to being able to walk right into town and not always have to drive. Thoughts?
