Review of Klamath Fal,

Do Oregonians Really Hate Californians?
Star Rating - 7/9/2016
My husband and I have been having a low key disagreement about this very subject. We're getting a bit older, we live in San Framcisco (natives) and I've been checking out different communities across the nation where we can move to in a few years. My husband is convinced that you folks hate Californians, and we shouldn't check it out for retirement. He has never been there; that's just the scuttlebutt from a couple of his friends. I said we have to check it out for ourselves. I mean I get being a bit protective of a place I've lived in for over 50 years. The population of S.F., whereas doesn't sound like a huge surge in 50 years, went from ~725,000 to about ~815,000 today. But, this town is only 7 miles wide and with the advent of the tech boom, there are few homes under $1,000,000 (THATs what makes me mad). My point is, I don"t dig it, but I don't hate the people who have moved here. We want to be able to live in a place that is beautiful (same reason people come here). So tell me, we're not jerks, although political, we keep it to ourselves and we're geniunely nice people. Would we be welcome? Please be honest.

Thanks,
Alexandra

It may depend on where you move to. Most of the people in Portland are not from Portland. The reason many native Oregonians "hate" or strongly dislike Californians is because Californians have been using the inflated value of their California homes to jack up the prices of homes in Portland and surrounding areas. Frequently they are offering tens of thousands of dollars over asking price in cash (this info coming from a friend in real estate...not urban legend). People like me (who grew up in the Portland area) are no longer able to afford living in the Portland area and Portland has lost much of its charm because of the influx of (mainly) Californians. I imagine you could have positive impact on the local economies (and therefore be more welcomed by native Oregonians) if you were to retire to an economically depressed but beautiful Oregonian town like Klamath Falls, Bandon, or Coos Bay. Even if you moved to Portland, I wouldn't hate you personally, but I do hate that Californians have pushed me and many other native Oregonian out of Portland.

Additionally, I believe in moving to locations where one's politics reflect the politics of their new home. Eastern Oregon is intensely "red". Deer hunting, Arby's sells venison sandwiches, Trump bumperstickers, MAGA caps, etc... It would kill me to live in an deep blue political zone, as I wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut. If you don't mind being surrounded by "red", and promise NOT to try to make this place into the place you left, with your "blue" vote, come on up!

My family has farmed and lived in KFalls as well as Ca for 50+ years and when growing up went to school in the Klamath area. My wife and our four children moved back to KFalls in the mid eighties and found life not changed that much. We have property there just outside of Klamath approx 10 minutes from the hospital, Collage, and shopping. We were going to retire there but due to uncontrolled circumstances are unable. We will be putting our property up for sale which consists of a hill side home site with beautiful views of Klamath lake and Mt Shasta as well as Xllent level property for a gentleman’s ranch with power two Wells, Xllent water and paved roads around property with Hwy 97 one of them. Let me know if you are interested and we can discuss further. You are just far enough from town for peace and quite but close enough for medical needs, entertainment and shopping.
