It may depend on where you move to. Most of the people in Portland are not from Portland. The reason many native Oregonians "hate" or strongly dislike Californians is because Californians have been using the inflated value of their California homes to jack up the prices of homes in Portland and surrounding areas. Frequently they are offering tens of thousands of dollars over asking price in cash (this info coming from a friend in real estate...not urban legend). People like me (who grew up in the Portland area) are no longer able to afford living in the Portland area and Portland has lost much of its charm because of the influx of (mainly) Californians. I imagine you could have positive impact on the local economies (and therefore be more welcomed by native Oregonians) if you were to retire to an economically depressed but beautiful Oregonian town like Klamath Falls, Bandon, or Coos Bay. Even if you moved to Portland, I wouldn't hate you personally, but I do hate that Californians have pushed me and many other native Oregonian out of Portland.
