Review of Kansas City, Missouri

Horrible place
Star Rating - 2/14/2010
Kansas City is a horrible place to live unless you are Mexican or a ghetto gangster. Not a safe place to live. People can't drive, schools are horrible unless you want to send your kids to a private school. The Mayor shouldn't be in office. He has lost the city several company contracts that would have brought thousands of jobs. Hes trying to close the zoo. The roads here are very bad. Instead of fixing the roads they decided to make a stupid artsy bridge that is screwing up the downtown commute. The drugs are horrible here. Not a good place to raise a family. I can not stress how horrible this place is.

Worst place? Okay me been here for around 50 years, large Irish/American Native family. No Kansas City is not the worst place ever to live some places are OKAY, not great and others are Horrible. The cost to work and live in Kansas City is VERY HIGH higher than the national average. EVERYTHING is taxed labor, goods, water, income, electricity, school, personal property, houses, cars etc. and no it’s not a onetime tax on property, cars or real-estate it’s every year. Wages have been and are stagnant, well below the national average, mostly service jobs. Roads are horrible and politicians are crooked. Culture? Yes, there are a few shining spots but not enough of them. City Market and the steam boat Arabia will take the better part of half a day. Throw in the Liberty memorial and the World War one exhibit for another half day. Nelson art museum will take some time to digest and if you need some time to sit try the book store on the plaza, it’s friendly enough. Worlds of fun is fun for the younger crowd and then there’s the power and light district if your to-do and wish to part with your funds quickly. We have gambling (against the publics wishes, not sure how one out of three votes equals something) so if you wish to sit in a dilapidated dingy casino you can. Don’t forget to spend a day with the sports teams. I cannot recommend the Zoo in any way shape or form. I first visited the Zoo when I was Six and it had its perks elephant rides, train river and water way ride. Up close personnel exhibits with clean glass and well maintained. The zoo has floundered away into a basin of filth and has the feel of the projects instead of a family outing. Avoid Swope park unless you are armed. Our parks are horrible places in comparison to other parts of the world. Waters brown and polluted, Missouri and Kansas City seem to have little to no interest in maintaining parks. No quality of outdoor life what so ever and very little sense community. If you’re looking for City services help with living or medical look elsewhere. Everything is donation driven or so heavily used by the few there is not any for you if you need it. Roads we have lots of roads here and most are in poor condition. The drivers are okay, just trying to get to work, that second job or third job. I would recommend avoiding rush hours just like any other place. Would I live here again if starting over? No, I don’t think so I would. When my aging parents depart this world, I believe it will be time to move to a better place
