Review of Frisco Te,

Anti-LDS
Star Rating - 2/5/2007
We have lived in Frisco since 1991. We have seen this community grow from 1 grocery store, one middle school and one high school to where it is now. Overall the experience has been great. We have enjoyed the area and loved the schools except for one issue. There is a big anti-LDS movement in the schools. It is mostly centered around athletics, but does spill over in to the classroom. The current district athletic direct and a lot of the coaches he has hired make no bones about their dislike for LDS kids and their families. My son was told by one of his coaches that he was not a Christian, but was a member of a cult. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but I do believe that separation of church and state has been clearly established by our constitution. Imagine how crushing that is to a 16 year old to have his coach tell him he a member of a cult. I know of several LDS kids who have been out right ridiculed in the class room and in sports. My son was a 2 time football team captain, 2 time all district and 2 time all county player. 4 year varsity track, 4 time regional qualifier in track. 2 year varsity wrestling and 1 year varsity powerlifting team member. He was actively recruited his junior year for football, but the recruiters must go through the coaching staff at his school to be contacted. His senior year he received no contacts at all. Just beware if you are LDS and moving to the Frisco area that once word gets out about your faith you may get discriminated against and they are not shy about it.

I just "happened" on this site and was very disappointed to read the "Anti-LDS" perception. I understand that it's been almost 3 yrs since that review was posted; however I would like to comment. I am blown away by this, and sincerely hope this was an isolated incident - and perhaps even blown out of proportion. My daughter attended FHS during her Freshman & Soph. yrs, and was transferred to Centennial for her Jr yr. We have a very open line of communication. I will state up front that we are Christians that "walk the walk". We "judge not, lest we be judged". There was always such a diversity of young people in the schools from all backgrounds - including, but not limited to Muslim, Buddist, Hindu. My daughter even had one teacher who professed to be an atheist. I never once heard of any issue regarding conflict of interest regarding religious beliefs. This is America, a FREE nation, and WE THE PEOPLE have a right to our choice of religious beliefs! I would like to say that - If you will research the 1st Amendment to the Constitution, you will find that it does not state "separaton of church and state". It states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." The point of the amendment was twofold. First, it ensures that religious beliefs - private or organized - are removed from attempted government control. This is the reason why the government cannot tell either you or your church what to believe or teach. Second, it ensures that the government does not get involved with enforcing, mandating, or promoting particular religious doctrines. This is what happens when the government "establishes" a church - and because doing so created so many problems in Europe, the authors of the Constitution wanted to try and prevent the same from happening here. That has been taken completely out of context & misconstrued. Still your son should not have been treated any differently than any other student. As a Christian, had I known, I would have stood up for you and your right to practice the religion of your choice! May GOD richly bless you.
