Charlotte needs a facelift. A facelift of different people. There is just something wrong with peeps here. Still trying to sort it out. It definitely makes for a good sociology experiment. They are trying too hard to be something they're not. Too many wanna-be's. So many here are a wanna be something: Wanna-be yuppie; wanna-be hoity toity; wanna-be gangsta; wanna-be bad ass; the list is endless. It may be rare to meet a real, down to earth person with little to prove. It's unfortunate. The only thing i can conclude at this point is that it is in the water. What else? You would think it would be cool with all the transplants like myself here. But they have the same issues. With the exception of the heavy concentration of NYC/NJ/NE peeps here (who do nothing but complain that CLT is not NYC or Boston), everyone else seems to hail from the dying/dead rust belt towns in the midwest, or some two meal town off the grid somewhere. They come to Charlotte (in some cases reasons unknown- many just grab a job doing whatever)and think it's all that. And because they think CLT is all that, they think they're all that because they're here! That's one of my theories. They're lost. And they thrive on drama. Without it some of them would probably disintegrate. Anyone know a good plastic surgeon?

You make a lot of good points. The original Charlotte folk who grew up in the city are usually very good people but most of them are not in uptown so the dilemma is whether to live uptown with plenty of entertainment or live in the suburbs with the better people but less options for things to do.

Hmmm... Northern or other transplants don't like Charlotte? I'm actually surprised because they've been moving here in droves for the past 15 years. I certainly haven't seen a decrease in that. Perhaps the reason folks are having trouble "accepting" transplants is because many transplants bash what we value (i.e. church, simplicity, quality of life instead of running all the time, quiet living instead of noise, etc.). Many transplants lord over us their vast amount of "knowledge", while assuming the natives are all idiots or less than. Maybe we don't WANT to be like the big cities or emulate the northern or progressive cultures - where folks also create taxation and big government to take care of their problems because they can't seem to handle them on their own. So many are fleeing the states with high taxes and high cost of living that they have, in fact, created with their own world views. It's really beyond me why they don't understand that their ideas created the problem from which they are fleeing. Yes, if that's what the transplants are looking for, then perhaps Charlotte is not for you. If, however, folks want to come and chill with us here in NC and leave the ridiculous ideas of big government, the elitist attitudes and constant chatter just to be talking, then come pull up a rocking chair, grab a glass of sweet tea and be still. We'll welcome you with open arms.
