Review of Memphis, Tennessee

It’s Memphis
Star Rating - 12/22/2019
I’ve lived in and also around the city of Memphis Tennessee since 94’ and it really has not changed one bit. The ignorance in this city is rampant and racism is alive doesn’t matter who you are you can feel the vibes blacks hating whites and vice versa. I’m biracial and experienced it from both races. Now not everyone is bad I’ve met some good people but it seems there are more bad than good here. Ranked 3rd in nation for violence for a reason it’s not safe especially at night. The roads are horrendous pot holes bumpy uneven roads are rarely fixed in this city. Corruption is not uncommon. There are some good things about this city The food especially the bbq is delicious! The cost of living is good compared to other major cities. I enjoy the climate here the hot summers along with the mild winters doesn’t bother me. I really enjoy the zoo and parks. Overall it’s not that bad But bad enough that I wouldn’t recommend living here. God bless.

I have Lived here all my life and this city is a complete shame to say I am born and raised from. There is no middle of the road. For instance, living: It’s either upper class mostly white neighborhoods or poverty stricken African American, neighborhoods. It’s insane how it’s 2020 and still to this day, this city is still separated the way it is. I hate it and will soon be relocating out of Memphis, TN, the sooner the better!!

Memphis IS a city of "good abode," meaning people of all cultures, races and economic levels step up, more often together, for great causes, i.e. St. Jude lives & thrives here, world renown medical research, higher education, birthplace of multiple cultural assets (yea MIM, Go Tigers!), natural resources, especially the artesian water (yum) and while obesity and cardiac issues abound, the city is growing in renewal and reuse, and finally becoming less tolerant of intolerance. That said, yes, we have major deficiencies in primary education, minority business success and maintaining infrastructure. But the overall outlook for Memphis is, we've come a long way and we have a great deal of potential still to realize. If more young Memphians would invest in the solutions, volunteerism and community activism, the city will continue to move toward a bright, energetic but probably bumpy future, versus, “wouldn’t recommend” it. It’s a flavor one has to develop, refine and savor. And our water will be solid gold someday, just like our BBQ & music heritage!
