Review of Portland, Oregon

Portland went from fame to flame in only 3 years
Star Rating - 6/13/2021
We moved to Portland for work and lived there for 3 years. At first we thought it was great: beautiful trees, flowers, restaurants, breweries, shopping, etc.

We learned to deal with rain, snow, ice, etc. Gloom goes with bloom.

Then the homeless problem started to grow. Our car was broken into, my office was surrounded by tents, needles and poop started appearing everywhere.

The City, county, metro, rail, and schools all started bonds that saw our already crazy property tax go up by 40% in 3 years. Almost 2% of market value.

Then they passed an income tax, art tax...etc. But the streets remained full of potholes, garbage everywhere and graffiti slowly started to cover every surface.

Covid hit and the city shut down. Restaurants, breweries, and shops closed. Then the riots started. Downtown became a war zone at night. Everything beautiful was destroyed. Nothing was safe. Gun crime shot through the roof. Homicides were up 600%.

Instead of fixing crime, the DA stopped prosecution of the rioters, property and drug crimes. More drug addict homeless moved in. The police stopped responding to burglaries, car theft, bicycle theft and more. Response times for violent crimes shot up to 2 hours.

The city council enabled all of this.

So we sold our home to a family from California seeking Portlandia. We know they are landing in Flynt West. We bought a home in a clean, safe, well maintained, much lower cost, less radical city in Arizona. Taxes are 1/3 of Portland and we bought an equivalent home for 1/3 as well.

Looking back into Portland now, the schools are going to crap as well and the whole situation has gone from bad to unbelievably aweful.

Look elsewhere, you have been warned.

Well thank you for leaving. Love that people come here in droves expecting that Portland can support all the trendy empty selfish people who want to tell everyone they lived here but contributed nothing but inflating real estate to impossible levels and over populating a city they expect too much but gave nothing. We didn't have so many homeless bit Oregonians can't afford to live here anymore with houses going for over $100,000 over asking prices- even with all the protests, garbage, shootings, theft and liberalism! Too bad you jumped ship when you did, you could have doubled your profit! And check it out, you people are now flooding Arizona and you will find all the ugliness right back in your neighborhood - which state will you people ruin after Arizona? Not too many places left!

I lived in Portland, OR for 35 years and still own a home there so I have seen many changes to the city. I still love it and the beautiful Spring and Fall, the many hikes and views in an abundance of forests, mountains, and close by beaches. Over the years, it has become a target for right wing malcontents, as well as, rebellious young people, but the overall city itself is quite livable with many cultural venues and great restaurants, two lovely waterfronts, and friendly people. Unfortunately, it has become a hot spot for media attention which has acerbated the problem and, of course, like many large cities, the homeless problem has become intense. Just don't believe everything you read on the news. It's generally quite peaceful.

You're right. Lived there for almost 30 years. Moved from Arizona in 92 and Portland was awesome. We escaped just north of Vancouver Wa (across river 35 miles) and it is night and day. We got to keep all the awesomeness of the NW without income taxes, lower property tax, crime free and better schools. Unfortunately, I commute to PDX one to two times a week - what a dump. Dangerous, filthy, mean spirited - that is the Portland of today. What a shame, it was beautiful at one time. In the end, with all these postings remember one thing - it's really about the community - the people make the ultimate difference. The people of Portland voted for the DA (Shmidt) and the city commissioners, Keep it weird lol - how's that working for ya

It does not help that the city council now has a disproportionate amount of people of color compared to the population of the city. That is not a racist comment, but a fact. And it does not help that one of the members is a very outspoken against white "supremacy" and white privilege. White people continue to be told by people of non-color that we are racist. Who knew? We didn't know because it's not true. it's their story, and the sad part is now they have convinced many white children that it's true. We have gone from bad to worse, and it will only get worse before it gets better. Because all the politicians who have an ax to grind are stirring up hatred, and division, not unity and love.

Well it is a very radical liberal city and that usually equals out to everything you just mentioned.

Why are the people in Portland so ignorant?

Good bye, hope you love Arizona. Love all the people that move to a place, and then say everyone moving there after destroyed the place. So they move on to the next place to ... only complain about it soon. hahah
