Review of Jacksonville, Florida

Love/hate relationship with Jax
Star Rating - 8/29/2022
I’ve lived in Jacksonville for 12+ years(but visited on and off much longer). There’s things I love and things I hate and just like any place there are pros and cons. Pros: comfortable living expenses, St. Augustine close by, beaches, dog friendly, plenty of shopping/food options. Cons: very very rainy for a good portion of the year, public education (even at “A”) schools is subpar, unless you live at the beaches or riverside area not a walkable city (between city layout, heat, drivers etc), so need to drive everywhere, drinking water quality isn’t the best. I think at the end of the day, no one place is perfect. Considering moving but housing market is a mess everywhere.

Hi there. I am reading your comments and I'm curious to know HOW rainy it is most of the year? Are you meaning that is rains every afternoon in the summer for an hour or so after a nice morning/ early afternoon at the beach, or do you think that it rains a LOT throughout the year like Washington? My husband & I are looking to move to Jax area (not sure where yet) to get AWAY from cloudy/rainy weather here in the Florida Panhandle! Dec-Feb is VERY rainy here and overcast ALL day long......DEPRESSING. Also, what areas get crowded and busy with traffic the most to avoid moving to. We are retiree's but not old farts by any means LOL and good schools don't really matter to us for obvious reasons. I HAVE heard, however that St Johns has the best school system in Jacksonville and your rating was "sub par". Thank you for your input if you could reply :-)
