Wherever it is you came from, you need to do just a little research. The African-American population in Franklin, according to their last census, is 16.8%. Bend, OR (overall population is about 71,000), a liberal city in a liberal State, has an African-American population of 3/10th of 1% (US Census Bureau web site). Which one of these two is more diverse?
Yes, religion plays an important role in Franklin. It is part of the social fabric of the community. A little research would have told you that we are in the middle of the Bible belt. Franklin is a little boring. It's one of the few communities where you don't have to lock up your car. If you forgot to lock your house, chances it won't be a problem. Having lived in big cities, this is an especially nice change. There is plenty to do here and in Nashville, if you make the effort.
I'm not sure about alleged racism. I've seen a number of mixed racial couples of all ages walk the streets of Franklin. Yet, nobody really pays attention or really cares. Our church has it's fair share of African-Americans that are members. We also have a Chinese ministry and a Hispanic ministry. How you arrived at the conclusion that minorities can't get jobs is strictly your opinion. In this economy, everyone has a problem finding jobs.
The bottom line is if Franklin, or any other city, is not your cup of tea, don't move here. You can easily research places to live that is more suitable to your standards. Simply selling your home and packing up your family to move somewhere simply because it's rated as a top place to live is not a good strategy. Do your research first.
