Review of Silverton, Oregon

Crumbling Infrastructure while they build PUDs
Star Rating - 10/18/2017
If you remember the beautiful, quality town of Silverton, you can save that memory and not come see what Silverton has become today. The City allowed three story high density apartments to be build right next to the train tracks at the entrance to the City, then another three story, high density low income housing project bookended on the other end of town. Currently, a high density PUD is proposed on James Street and the Planning Commission has approved it for 56 crackerbox houses on a small lot surrounded by Farm Land. Pioneer Square phase Four is 76 lots, other various approved projects add another 112 units. The foxes are watching the hen house here. Traffic is routinely backed up to Oregon Gardens and Silverplace Apartments. You can forget shopping downtown as it is dirty, faded and neglected with empty storefronts and aggressive panhandlers. Water, Sewer, roads, schools and every other community service is taxed to the max by the current population, let alone adding thousands more. The City falls back on an outdated 15 year old Comp Plan that Developers use to force through their development projects with no care or concern for the degradation of quality of life for current residents. The City throws up their hands and claims there is nothing they can do. Silverton is being built out to death and the lovely unique charm that we all knew and loved, but a memory. Avoid Silverton.
