What BestPlaces Users Say about Carmen

Carmen, Idaho is a small town located in the eastern part of the state. With a population of only 174, it is known for its picturesque views of the Salmon River and its close proximity to outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing. However, living in a small town like Carmen may come with its own set of pros and cons. Many people have shared their experiences and opinions about living in this particular place on the website BestPlaces.net.

According to Sarah P., who has lived in Carmen for 10 years, "Living in Carmen allows for a peaceful and quiet lifestyle. The community is small and close-knit, making it easy to get to know your neighbors." However, she also mentions that "the winter months can be tough, as the town is located in a valley and can experience harsh weather conditions."

Another reviewer, Mark W., praises the natural beauty of Carmen, stating "the surrounding mountains and river make it a perfect place for outdoor enthusiasts." He also adds that "the housing prices are affordable compared to other parts of the state."

In contrast, Peter R. shares his disappointment with the lack of amenities in Carmen. He writes, "There is only one small grocery store and limited dining options in town. For more variety, you have to drive at least 30 minutes to the nearest city."

However, some reviewers like Lisa B. appreciate the slower pace of life in Carmen. She says, "I moved here from a big city and was initially worried about the lack of entertainment options. But I have come to enjoy the peaceful and laid-back lifestyle of this town." She also mentions the friendly and welcoming community as a positive aspect of living in Carmen.

Overall, the reviews about living in Carmen are mixed, with some praising its tranquility and natural beauty while others mention the limited amenities. This is a hidden gem. I moved here three months ago and feel like I died and went to heaven. The varieties of birds are amazing... about 400 varieties in this area including many geese, ducks, blue heron, sand crane, bald eagles, golden eagles, owls, doves, and beautiful small birds. And deer, elk, fox, and even occasional wolves, bears and mountain lions. The Beaverhead Mountains are stunning, as is the Salmon River of No Return. We live on the Salmon River with the Salmon Primitive Wilderness area just West of us and the Continental divide just to the East. I have travelled the world and lived in many beautiful and exotic places (even Hawaii), but this is my Read More

Wonderful place to live - 5/8/2009
The Salmon/Carmen, Idaho lifestyle is ideal. Our weather is mild compared to the rest of the state. We have a comparatively safe environment all of the time. Our setting is beautiful, beneath the Continental Divide and lovely mountains all around us. The Salmon River is lovely and runs through the town. The only drawback is employment is very scarce. Mostly retired or government people live here. My children grew up here, graduated from high school here, but had to leave for education and career opportunities. We live on a lovely ranch and my husband and I are semi-retired. He still ranches and I retired from the court system and am now a full time legal assistant for a local attorney. For a small town, we have many cultural activities and many things to keep us busy. We love our lifestyle here in the mountains of Read More
