re: Great restaurants, terrible people - 2/4/2010
Though I am currently just an aspiring entrepreneur who has had to earn everything I have (no hand outs of any kind or family financial support), I would agree that to an extent, these are reasonably accurate blanket-statements. You certainly can't fault people for trying to live a better life and have nice things, but I just don't see the necessity for people to act likewise, and this is certainly a common theme in this area. People in many areas of the country-especially larger cities, are very materialistic in general these days despite some recent rebalancing of the economy and housing. Yet, competing with the spoiled children of old money families isn't anything to be grateful for either (or having to compete against). The playing field of life is not fair game, yet I am hopeful that Americans-wealthy or not-make every reasonable effort to treat their friends, neighbors and co-workers with equal respect and opportunuty. The sooner we understand the importance of contributing individually and to each other and our society, the quicker it is possible for all to enjoy the fruits of our efforts and a well functioning society/government/democracy.
