Washington, DC

Great fun, as long as you avoid being out at night
- 11/8/2006
DC/MD/VA was a tough place to live, especially for a single white female. It's a decent place during the day, but I wouldn't reccomend going anywhere at night unless you're with a large group. In the first two weeks of living in DC, I was mugged 3 times, threatened by hoodlums, and witnessed 2 holdups at the same convenience store.
Advice? Visit DC during the day, get out before nightfall, and make your life in Virginia or North Carolina. Much safer.

Raleigh, NC

Love Raleigh, was very difficult to leave!

I loved Raleigh/Durham, though I only lived there for a short 8 months. Not nearly long enough, and I fully plan on going back once finished with college!
The perfect blend of city convenience and southern hospitality. Lots to do, friendly people (your neighbors actually acknowledge your existance - a vast improvement from Seattle!), and a safe place to raise a family or carve a living. Affordable housing, not packed together like sardines, and the climate is very, very nice! Distinct seasons, though not too much in the ways of extremes.
School system is very good for the most part, though I never had the pleasure of experienceing it.
Overall, the best city I've ever lived in.

San Diego, CA

This town seems hardly worth our time...
- 11/8/2006
After living in Seattle, Jersey City, San Diego, Raleigh (NC), and Richmond (VA), I can honestly say that San Diego is the WORST place I have ever had the displeasure of living.
To its credit, San Diego has a nice climate and a good hold on the governing of the city, as well as a thriving business market.
But that's about it.
San Diego is overrun by uneducated, lazy illegals who run across the border and invade the city. They don't even try to learn English, yet expect to be handed the American dream. Not only that, but the school system is the worst I've ever seen. Underfunded, overcrowded, and understimulating for anyone with an IQ over 70.
If you want to be able to order a meal in San Diego, you better hablas Espanol, because rarely can you find someone with papers and a hold on the English language to help you.
Housing prices are ridiculous, and I don't see how all the illegals can afford to live there, unless they pack 10 into one apartment.
My advice: move to the Mid-Atlantic or costal south. Friendlier, comprende Ingles, and much more for what you pay, plus convenience to metropolitan areas.
