Port St. Lucie, FL

Not so great - 6/29/2016
Ah yes, Port Saint Lousy. What I’ve found since moving here a few years ago is that Florida as a whole should be called “The Free For All State”. As far as this town goes it’s very obvious. Everyone is trying to get their hand into your pocket, and the town government is no exception. It’s obvious, yet taken for granted here as normal.
90% of the US Medicare fraud is in Florida. As far as the medical profession goes, it’s hard to find a decent doctor to stick with for more than a year or so before they skip town or you realize that their quacks. Dentists here? Forget it. Dentist offices are popping up around here faster than ACA halfway houses. You can’t trust any of them. They are incubators for dentists who want to practice on people to gain enough experience to leave town toward West Palm Beach or south, where the real money is. If you’re not bringing a job with you, or you have health problems, stay where you are because if you come here you’ll be sadly disappointed.

Yep, I came here a few years ago to do some fishing, perhaps ballroom dance classes, and get involved as a citizen in town government. What I found was polluted water to fish in, dance of the living dead (young folks are not interested), and town government run like a police state (and people just don't care).

Florida City, FL

Bad Place - 11/9/2014
What a pit. I live in Port St. Lucie and came to Florida City for a temporary job this fall. The place has a red-light camera set up at Krome and Palm Drive that the city uses to rob people. When making a right turn on red it’s not good enough to stop past the stop line (to see the intersection clearly) before the turn, but you must stop AT the line or get a $158 VIOLATION ticket. It’s extortion as revenue enhancement in the guise of public safety!
City extortion, dirty roads and lots, panhandlers everywhere, a pit. When the sun goes down the bums and panhandlers approach you at the stop lights and in shopping center parking lots. If I never go back to this dump it’ll be too soon.

Getting worse around here. Still lots of foreclosures and bum rentals around town. Cost of living is not as low as you think here, or in Florida in general. Just got the water bill: calculated out to about $720/yr for a couple who conserve water. The cities and towns are all about MONEY. They'll squeeze as much out of you as they can. It's awful how they fine people here and put liens on property just because they have some weeds in the yard or an exposed trash barrel in the driveway. They'll attach a home for thousands which people can't afford, so that the city can cash in when the old folks finally die and the property is sold. I don't know how this abuse was allowed to get so out of hand.

Right about the white trash and crooked contractors, but the neighborhood nukes that dare to provide living wage jobs? Spreading radiation all over the city? Wow, need to educate yourself in this subject or move. By the way, PGA Village is home to some folks that work there. You might be living next door to a radioactive zombie!

OK to visit - 5/30/2013
When you visit you'll think it would be a nice place to live. After living here you'll see how the state and city governments take advantage of the residents. Permits for everything but picking your nose, almost $300 for auto registration, gestapo code police that comb the streets (with taxpayer provided vehicles) looking for old toilets at the curb trash so they can fine you if you don't have a permit, etc... Couldn't even get outside police chief candidates to stay, because of the politics. Had a really sharp city manager that the council fired (probably viewed him as a threat to their regime). If you can stand the shenanigans, the shopping is good and the fishing is close by.

Come here - 12/14/2012
It shouldn't be "The City For All Ages", but "The City For Kids". New infrastructure, new schools, new buses, etc... Just not much for them to do when they graduate.

You are absolutely right! The PSL population increase is 85% and the town is going after every dime it can from the common folk. Permits$$ for everything except wiping your butt, and their "Gestapo" code enforcement police are even said by contractors to be "vicious". The code cops look at houses for sale and scour the history for anything not permitted, then when the house gets sold they hit the new owner with fines! Beware! Check out their televised "Special Magistrate" kangaroo court if you want to see these thieves in action. We moved here recently also and are looking forward to moving out. Yes the property taxes are low but that's because the property values are in the mud. Rental bums are moving into town by the droves, but you can't see that if you're in a "gated" community. Just drive around the center of town though or spend a Saturday doing the garage sale circuit just for kicks. The climate is nice and the townspeople I've met are nice, it's just the way the town's hierarchy treats taxpayers and small businesses that irks me.
