6/25/2012Richmond is not 5 hours from NYC, Try 7 hours. And I don't think Richmonders are cold at all. People in Richmond are very friendly people , but some people mistake older Richmonders as "aloof". The South is a more formal part of the country, and people moving down here from the Northeast or Midwest, or whatever, may not be used to the formality of places such as Richmond, Charleston, Savannah. We do offer lots though as you mentioned- and there's nothing wrong with being a little different than the rest of the Country.

11/27/2007Richmond is much more Southern and friendly than Nashville or Atlanta. Maybe you ran into some people that just weren't nice. Richmond is plenty South, and people a very friendly!

6/30/2007Whoever said Richmonders lack Southern hospitality must not know much about the South. While there are more people from the outside, Richmond abounds with great elegance and a charming mix of people. The architecture of Richmond is without match. You can stroll down Monument Ave and enjoy the magnolia and dogwood trees and get a bite to eat at one of Richmond's outstanding restaurants serving southern gourmet cuisine. The Jefferson Hotel beckons guest to a bygone Era of grand hotels. Richmond has an Old South and veranda feel that you just won't get in Atlanta or Nashville or other "New South" cities. While Richmond has its charm, its not without progress. There is much to do in Richmond, be it museums, art galleries, or some of the hip shops in Carytown. Richmond is the epitome of an Old South city if ever there was one.
