Tallahassee, FL

It's easy to get comfortable here - 9/19/2007
This is a college town and I too came here for college. Like most college students I researched and read about all the places I would go when I graduated to get out of Tallahassee. But when I read about the traffic problems, high crime, and high cost of living in many popular areas, I begin to realize how much I like it here. The climate is nothing to complain about. Like most places in Florida, it gets really hot for most of the year and the winter is short and uncomfortable. There are beautiful natural areas nearby. Like the others said, a majority of decent paying jobs are with the state or with the universities, but there are more businesses opening everyday. The traffic isn't too bad, even with the influx of college students every semester. I don't have kids, but the schools seem to be decent. It is the country, but it's a pleasant place to live. Entertainment is lacking, but it's getting better, and I see it as a good businesses opportunity. Overall, Tallahassee has grown on me and I feel it's a really nice place to live.

Vero Beach, FL

Great place for families and retirees
- 5/15/2006
I am from Vero Beach and lived there until I went to college. Vero is not for young, active singles. It's clean, safe, community oreiented, and it great for a family or older individuals. The real estate is truly expensive. There is no club scene, no educational scene that i can remember (they have off-campus locations for a community college), and no large events. There is decent shopping and it is centrally located to bigger cities. Except for an occassional hurricane, you can't beat the weather. And the beach is no further that 15minutes away. I wouldnt mind retiring there.

Tallahassee is full of college students...
- 5/15/2006
I once was one of these students, now I can't stand them. Tallahassee is ok, The real estate is still reasonable, there are activities for all age groups. The thing I don't like right now is that they are getting outrageous with developing. Progress is great, but now it seems like anywhere you see a patch of grass you are guaranteed to see townhomes built on it in about 6 months. But the traffic is acceptable, not too many high paying jobs but there is still opportunity for businesses. Tallahassee doesnt really get hit with the hard part of the hurricanes either, however it gets a little too cold for me.

Home of the newly wed and the nearly dead...

I am from Vero Beach and lived there until I went to college. If you have a family, are looking to retire, or just want a gorgeous home by the beach, Vero is the place for you. It is safe, clean, quiet, and centrally located to many bigger cities. You can't beat the weather (besides an occassional hurricane). There is no club scene, everything closes early, not a lot of events...its just not a place for single young people looking for a good time. However, there is immense opportunity for growth and business. the other commentor was right though, most people who live there want it to stay small and quiet. The real estate is truly expensive. Its a beautiful, safe, clean, community-oriented city. Not great for twenty-ish, thirty-ish singles.

Perfect for 'the newly wed or the nearly dead'

I am from Vero Beach and lived there until I went to college. (I am shocked they actually have Vero Beach and Vero Beach South as if there is a distinction). If you have a family, are looking to retire, or just want a gorgeous home by the beach, Vero is the place for you. It is safe, clean, quiet, and centrally located to many big cities. You can't beat the weather (besides an occassional hurricane). However, there is immense opportunity for growth and business. the other commentor was right though, most people who live there want it to stay small and quiet. It's like a secret. The real estate is truly expensive. Its a beautiful, safe, clean, community-oriented city. Not great for twenty-ish, thirty-ish singles.
