Most of the negative comments on this board are true. It's a hot, ugly crowded, polluted city. The people are snobs. They are very pretentious on $35K annual incomes. It's full of working class snobs from the Great Lakes area (mostly) pretending to be uptown. They have brought their snotty attitudes with them. The people left behind in those states are probably celebrating these losers leaving for Phoenix. The crime is high. Drugs are PREVALENT (understatement). Vato gangs all over. The pay is lousy / good jobs that pay decently are few, even with a degree. Hard workers are not rewarded, the butt-kissers are. The people just seem to be so angry and always on the verge of exploding on you. The females here all seem to have "Battered Woman's Syndrome", they love tough-acting, abusive men. The men are ignorant, brutal and stupid. The educational level is low. There is no culture. Multiculturalism just divides people - we are all humans and that should be enough. If you show any intelligence you are brushed off like you're some sort of weirdo or loser;...not the other way around. Like one of the posters says, bad behavior is rewarded in Phoenix. Sincerity is mocked. If you have money it's tolerable, but you either have it here or you DON'T. I have lived in several places and I can say I don't miss it ONE bit or have any real warm memories from it....other than the nasty summer heat.

There's really little to do here. The crime is high. There aren't many good jobs and it's not easy to get acquainted with people. Also...I've lived many places and I can tell you that "Arkies" are the biggest back-stabbners in the world...especially in the workplace

The pay is insultingly low. The Caddo Parish Sheriffs are storm-troopers (this is a Republican saying this) they ticket for anything and if you are stopped they treat you like a criminal and you will ALWAYS be ticketed

The good: weather from late October through May 15th; decent shopping and colleges.
The bad: no culture; the summers are horrid; snotty, angry people; I have lived a quite a few places and I've never met more cruel, nasty people in all my life; it also attracts the dumb and ignorant; overcrowded, poor wages (employers don't have to pay decent wages because if you don't want the job some yokel from Iowa just got off the bus and is willing to work for less just to be there.

Has it's good and bad - 4/10/2009
The good: Beautiful scenery; outdoor activities galore; variety of weather; good schools; fairly low crime rate; nice people. Yes the summers are hot but the evenings are pleasant. Fall is gorgeous and pleasing; Winter is fun..for a while then you get burned-out on it by late January.
The bad: Horrid wages (Mormons are notorious cheapskates); horrendous house prices; cliquish Mormons - they tend to take themselves a bit too seriously and only hang with their owm - poor social skills; traffic has gotten crazy.

Houston is a wonderful city! Great jobs, good pay, and lots of work. Yes it does get hot but the winters are mild.
If you are a liberal you'd want Austin....but watch out for the high cost of living. Houston's cost of living is reasonable and the pay's good.

Texarkana, TX

Nice place, but..... - 4/8/2009
Texarkana has its POSITIVES: nice people, great place to raise kids, low traffic, reasonable cost of living, little crime, proximity to large cities (Little Rock, Dallas, Shreveport) lots of nice neighborhoods, good arts and culture for its size.
The NEGATIVES: horrible pay...few really good jobs, the Arkansas side is a ghetto dump.
The only good jobs/people making money are:

lawyers, doctors/nurses, "old money" people, long-established family businesses.
There are damm few "corporate" type jobs. The only openings are if someone dies or retires. If you are a white collar (and educated) professional it is very hard to find anything... and if you lose your job...well you'd better call your Real Estate agent right away and get ready to uproot your family!!! (and start checking into a house in Dallas or Houston).
