Northwest is very disappointing -
12/4/2021DuPont WA itself is great. There are problems in this entire area though. Minor and felony crime, shootings, drugs and homelessness are quickly rising mainly due to police and prosecution cut backs and lax enforcement. Prices around here were always very high for everything but are now even worse with resent high inflation. Our grocery bill is twice as high as in Virginia for example. It’s like with all the high technology companies around all businesses figure everyone has a six figure income and can afford high prices. If you hike or boat it’s a great area. If you swim or fish forget it. No beaches. There are so many fishing, oyster and clamming regulations it’s very difficult figuring out where and when you can fish for a particular specie. It’s probably to confusing to even create an app. There’s only one real north south highway and few east west highways so you’re always in for either heavy traffic or a long ride no matter where you go. Natives are used to this normal but coming here from almost anywhere else is disappointing. Kids basically lost over a year of learning during Covid. On line learning here is a joke.

1/6/2016Nice downtown mall but parking is expensive. If you plan on doing activities at U of Virginia parking is awful and expensive and expect lots of walking and stairs due to hilly campus and poor location of parking. Basketball tickets for UVA are more expensive than the NBA team I left. No pro or semi pro sports. Due to poor road planing, traffic is much worse than it should be for a city this size. Eating out is already expensive and the city is adding taxes on restaurants meals. Golds Gym and ACAC have a shared monopoly on the gym market so you have to pay $40 to $50 a month to join a gym. No Planet Fitness here. Probably due to all the transplants, city has absolutely no southern charm. Living here for two years and very disappointed. The area is pretty though.
