Louisville, KY

Beware of Louisville expensive housing - 2/19/2015
With the exception of the north east and some areas of the east end, affordable housing here is an absolute joke! If you are planning to move here and start looking you will probably not see it but anything that cost less than $600 for a one bedroom is run down and plain old. Owners are backed by the city and the county and they have places here that they rent for about $525 for a one bedroom that will make your life miserable. If you want something descent you have to come up with about 700+ just to warm up, otherwise prepare yourself for hell living! Is up to you but unless you have a job lined up that pays above $15 ph you should find another city like Nashville or Raleigh. Louisville is not nice.

The absolute worse roads system in the south - 2/19/2015
The roads here in Louisville is modeled after the 70' roads system. Poorly maintained and abandoned. The interstates are getting a little facelift with the new bridge, but that is all. Overall 2.5 out 10.

Louisville, KY

Read before you come - 10/2/2014
I hate to do this but I've been around the world and seen many cities in my life, Louisville is not a great city by any standards(one small exception Bardstown Road). This is a place were the south and the industrial north (Detroit, Toledo, Pittsburg, Baltimore)clash. If you are considering Louisville, read up this comments because if you are coming here from a city that is more advanced than this one, you will regret it and this is why:
1-Badly maintained one lane roads are the armpit of the south
2-Run down neighborhoods everywhere within the city limits, many
abandoned and ruined homes and buildings.
3-Major highways are not much to drive on unless you don't expect much.
4-High taxes in Jefferson County in comparision to other cities of
same size and population. Taxes here are embedded in every stage of
services and products. This section requires more details:
a.Property taxes...$1788 for a $122,000 home is ridiculous.
b.Gas prices among the highest in the south.
c.County and city for vehicles are an absolute ripoff.
d.Sales taxes are too high for the invest in return, which is not
much with bad roads, highways and streets in bad need of repair.
Dixie highway is a mess. In around downtown still has broken roads
from the 2011 ice storms.
e.Income taxes at all levels, be prepare to maintain the city,
county, state and public workers Union and boses.
f.For the amount of taxes that KY, Jefferson county and the city of
Louisville collect we should be nicer, cleaner, modernized and
desireable, but you will not see it here.
5- Multiple badly represented trailer parks within the city limits
depresiates home values.
6- The amount of old apartment buildings available in the south, west,
southwest and central part of the city are in complete state of
disrepair but owners are backed by the county to keep them open for
all the unfortunate that pay rent on an apartment that sometimes has
a window ac/heat. They live in deplorable conditions. They should
be demolished. They pocketing the money and not investing/fixing
anything.
7- When there is inclement wether they are very slow to provide clean
up and they start in the east and downtown.

So don't believe the narrative that Louisville is nice because is not,I know I lived there for 4 years. Unless you can afford high cost of living in the northeast which is higher than most neighborhods in other nicer cities dont. I now live in Austin texas and I feel like I changed worlds. If you want to live in a nice southern city, I can recommend(Nashville TN,Huntsville AL,Greenville SC, Chattanooga TN, Charlotte NC, The Tri-City or Florida. There are many but louisville is not one of them.
