poliical question - 10/30/2014
Hi!
I had a question about the general political climate in Charlotte. Politically, I'm a conservative. I don't really know if Charlotte is marjority liberal, majority conservative, or somewhere in-between.
How well would I get along in the political enviornment. I'm just asking so I know where I stand if I decide to move there. It would be great if it's a purple state then I know either party would be ok there.

Thanks!

Questions about Retirement - 10/30/2014
Hi!

I was thinking about Charlotte as a possible retirement spot in the future. My question...is there a newcomers club I could join to meet other seniors my age? Are there any clubs to meet others in a similar situation, or is Charlotte a young single scene? If not, I would like to live in a small medium or large city that offers this. Most retirement spots just have a leisure lifestyle and not enough culture and arts. Any suggestions?

No Culture to speak of - 5/2/2014
If you're looking for culture, this place isn't for you. They have a crappy neighborhood theatre but that's about it. You have to go to Pittsburgh if you want to see anything cultural. It cracks be up that they think this crappy rural town is worth living in.

Getting Around Tampa - 4/22/2014
I love the idea of a city feel that Tampa has to offer. Theatre, culture, etc. The only question I have is how large is the city? Is it medium or large? I have a horrible sense of direction and fear I'll always get lost. I would need a gps to get around if it's too big. Is it intimidatingly big?

How Large is Tampa? - 4/20/2014
Is Tampa considered a large or medium city? I was thinking of retiring there. An extremely large city where I would get lost intimidates me, although I have a gps. I was thinking of a moderately large city but not too large. Is it easy to get around without getting lost?

I'm glad I read your post. I'm looking to retire in a nice area with low crime. From what I read, the cost of living seems high. Just curious where were you looking to move to that's more affordable? Are there any particular states that have a low cost of living and good weather? Florida perhaps? All states will have some kind of weather problem. Florida has hurricanes! It's hard to find the best of both worlds. Good Luck!

Low Crime - 4/18/2014
Crime here is fairly low compared to most areas. We still have robberies, break ins public drunkeness, etc. Most of the public drunkeness is committed by college student along with the usual mischief. That having been said, crime is not non-existent, and I still lock my door.

Doctors aren't the brightest and the best - 3/25/2014
The Doctors here in Indiana aren't the brightest and the best compared to larger cities. It seems larger cities get the top notch doctors and "rural" areas like Indiana are left with the "others."
I've had to go to a dermatologist on Philadelphia St several times before the got a cream that never really made my rash disappear. When I told him it wasn't working he got nasty and told me prednisone works we know that. It has side effects. I didn't ask for presnisone, just another cream. He insisted I use the same cream that didn't work. Basically, he acted like a d---k I gave it a whole month with a lot of cuts on my hand that were very painful. This is typical of a "rural" doctor. There's only one way to do anything. They won't open their minds to the possibility of anything else.
I look forward moving to a more "Progressive" city.

Quality of Life in Tampa - 3/12/2014
I'm planning on retiring in 8-9 years. Is Tampa a good place to retire?
I want to live in a place that has a lot of theatre/arts, comedy clubs, etc.
A lot of people say it's too hot. I love the warm weather and have a pretty good tolerence for it.
Crime is also an important factor. I realize every city has a lot of crime, but just how high is it?
Is the city very large? Easy to get around?
Is the general area of housing nice or run down? Comments please!

Low Crime - 10/6/2013
The crime in this area is relatively low compared to other areas of the country. You get the occasional mischief from drunken college kids on the weekends and homecoming weekend.

Looking to retire in Charlotte, NC - 9/27/2013
Hi Everybody!
I've read about all the good and bad of living in Charlotte. The only thing I didn't see mentioned was how a retired person fits in in Charlotte. Everyone keeps saying how good it is for families. Is Charlotte better suited for young people after college and not retirees? We would prefer to live in a community with others our own age because we have more in common with them.(Not because we don't like younger people). Are there meet and greet groups for seniors, or is it difficult? A little insight from other retired people would be helpful.

Don't waste your time living here. I've been here 20 years and I couldn't feel MORE SUFFOCATED. The culture is non existent. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing to do here except watch the grass grow. The people are a bunch of rednecks with no intelligence. I like living where people are open minded. If that's what you're looking for don't come here. There's only one way to do anything and they won't open their mind to change. I'm only here because of my kids. When they leave after college, I'M OUT OF HERE!!!!!
